Black Myth: Zhong Kui has returned with a 15-minute gameplay trailer that puts the rhythm of its action front and center. Game Science’s new footage follows a sword-wielding protagonist through a mythical world, moving from quiet stretches of exploration into skirmishes with hostile creatures and an extended battle against a winged opponent.

Rather than presenting combat as a blur of attacks, the trailer repeatedly draws attention to movement, timing and the space between fighters. Sword strikes remain at the center of each encounter, but dodges, parries and counterattacks give the action a more deliberate shape. The footage is captured in-game from a work-in-progress build, so its scenes offer a view of the game’s current direction rather than a final breakdown of every system.

Swordplay gives each encounter a measured pace

An early fight places the protagonist against a group of ghoulish enemies before escalating to a larger foe. He cuts through the smaller threats, sidesteps incoming attacks and answers a strike with a parry before delivering a finishing blow. The sequence establishes a combat style built around reacting to danger as much as pressing forward.

The same emphasis carries through later scenes. An archer’s projectile is avoided with a sharply timed movement, while other confrontations show the protagonist using defensive responses before striking back. The trailer’s combat scenes make the sword feel less like a simple tool for rapid attacks and more like the focus of a series of close-range exchanges.

Fire also becomes part of the visual language of these battles. In one sequence, the ground is ignited during a clash, and the protagonist later fights with a sword carrying a fire effect. The imagery adds contrast to the otherwise grounded movement of the swordplay, especially as enemies close in around him. It shows what is present in this version of the footage without defining the full range of combat options for the finished game.

A changing journey leads to a larger confrontation

The trailer does not remain in one combat arena. Its scenes move through forests, water and creature-filled spaces, giving the action a sense of travel between encounters. Those shifts make the world feel active even when the protagonist is not in the middle of a fight, while the visual transitions also set up the trailer’s biggest battle.

Near the water, a winged creature confronts the protagonist in an extended boss sequence. The enemy’s size and movement change the scale of the action, forcing the fight away from the smaller clashes shown earlier. Sword attacks and defensive maneuvers remain visible, but the encounter gives them a more dramatic setting.

The second swordsman remains an open question

A second sword-wielding figure appears during the winged creature battle and takes part in the encounter. The moment stands out because it briefly changes the shape of the fight, but the footage does not explain who this figure is or establish a broader role for the character. Its presence works as one of the trailer’s more intriguing images without answering the questions it raises.

The extended gameplay reveal brings combat, exploration and boss fights into the same sequence, allowing the world and the action to develop side by side. For readers following new releases in Video Games, the strongest takeaway is the trailer’s focus on sword-led encounters: each scene builds on the idea that positioning and response matter alongside attack power.

Work-in-progress footage sets the limits of the reveal

The trailer offers a substantial look at Black Myth: Zhong Kui in motion, including sword combat, dodges, parries, counterattacks, fire effects and the battle with the winged creature. It also leaves important details unresolved, particularly around the second swordsman and how the combat shown here will fit into the final game. That uncertainty is part of the reveal itself: the footage makes its current action clear while leaving the wider picture for Game Science to define later.
