Update following incident on deHavilland campus

In the early house of Tuesday morning police were called to deHavilland campus following an incident which sadly resulted in the death of a student.

The University posted on StudyNet today:

“The University is a close community of students and staff and this sudden death has saddened us all. University staff are working with the Police and security team to establish the details of what happened but the incident is not being treated as suspicious. We would like to send out deepest sympathies to the student’s family at this extremely difficult time. Counselling and support is available to all University students who are coming to terms with this tragedy.”

The Welwyn Hatfield Times reported that the 19-year-old student died in Stevenage’s Lister Hospital from self-inflicted injuries. They shared a statement from a police spokesman who said:

“Police were contacted by security staff at the University of Hertfordshire following an incident in which a 19-year-old student had self-harmed, causing himself significant injuries. The man was taken by ambulance to the Lister Hospital where he sadly died as a result of his injuries. The incident is not being treated as suspicious at this time.”
