Sir David Attenborough is Bae

By Aiden Perrins – Editor

With Planet Earth II recently finishing, and our Sunday evenings now returning to be boring, unimaginative and humdrum, it has reminded me of just how much I love Sir David Attenborough OM CH CVO CBE FRS FLS FZS FSA. I mean just look at all those letters after his name, they all mean something awesome presumably.

The man has a career that has lasted over 60 years, so he really knows what he’s talking about. To still be working when he is 90 it is clear he is more passionate about his work than most, particularly me who can hardly wake up for a 9am maths lecture. His knowledge of nature from research and experience has very little competition in the world.

Now, let’s talk about his voice, I could listen to him talk for hours. He could read the phonebook and I’d be captivated. The way he explains nature, and provides an insight into the lives of animals which many of us do not know about is unparallelled; I don’t think we’ll get another on the level of Attenborough in a long time.

I am certain in saying that he inspired young people 60 years ago to be interested in nature, and he’s still inspiring youth today. Hopefully, we can have someone grow up and fill his shoes, because at present there is simply no one like him. I feel sorry for the Americans who had to watch the original Planet Earth being narrated by Sigourney Weaver rather than Sir David Attenborough, I mean sure she was good in Alien, but she wouldn’t make me as interested in penguins as Attenborough.

To love a career as much as Sir David Attenborough loves his, is something which is just a pipe dream for many of us, and I personally am so thankful Attenborough got his opportunity to showcase his talents to the world for so long. It will be sad when this season of Planet Earth ends as it will probably be the last of the Attenborough documentaries, but bloody hell is it good.

Oh, and to top it all off, during the deserts episode he introduced us to these rock formations known as ‘slot canyons’, which is now my new favourite word for vagina.

Thank you Sir David Attenborough for your years of being the greatest nature documentary maker of all time.
