Product review: Younique makeup

[Georgia Porter | Contributing Editor]

Younique launched in the UK at the beginning of the year and have grown in popularity through social media. The brand’s mission is to uplift, empower and build self-esteem around the world through high quality products that encourage inner and outer beauty. I tried and tested some of their products to see what all the fuss is about.

Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+

I love fluttery and flirtatious lashes but happen to be useless at applying false lashes, so I was excited about this product. I received this product for my birthday and have been obsessed with it ever since. I like to wear Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+ when I go out in the evenings as my day time makeup is more natural.

To get the best results with this product, you are instructed to first apply a thin coat of your everyday mascara to your lashes and allow it to become tacky.

The product includes two tubes; the “Transplanting Gel” looks like regular mascara, and the “Fiber Lashes” looks like black candyfloss. To get the best results, complete one eye at a time and make sure you have both tubes in your hand with the top is unscrewed, as you’re working against the clock!

First apply a coat of the Transplanting Gel evenly over your top lashes, then quickly apply a coat of the Fiber Lashes and then to seal in the fibres, apply a second coat of the Transplanting Gel. You can repeat this process as many times as you want until you are happy with the length and volume of your lashes, however I find one layer is plenty to see a huge difference compared to the effects of regular mascara.

My final view is that I am very impressed with this product. I was sceptical at first because it seems every new mascara launched onto the market claims to be bigger and better without living up to its promises. Yet Younique’s Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+ keeps its promise and is a great investment for £23. The product will last you a long time as it will most likely be worn only in the evening or on special occasions.

Lucrative Lip Gloss in “Luxe”

My go-to lip colour is a neutral shade as I am quite fair. When I tried Luxe, the warm nude shade from Younique’s Lucrative Lip Gloss range, I instantly fell in love. I wear this product all the time, day to night, and it never lets me down.

Gone are the days of excusing ourselves to go to the bathroom so we can touch up our lip gloss. This product has a handy mirror the length of the tube down the side. I also love the applicator; rather than the pointed furry stick or brush that most lip glosses have, the Lucrative Lip Gloss has a spatula like wand which makes the spreading of the product evenly onto your lips so much easier.

The texture of the gloss isn’t too sticky, however it doesn’t dry out your lips either. Luxe has a subtle shine but isn’t overpowering with sparkle, which prevents its users from looking unnatural.

In summary, Younique’s Lucrative Lip Gloss in Luxe is my new favourite lip product. There are ten different shades to choose from, so there is bound to be colour that suits everyone. Although the product may seem a little pricy at £12, you are getting high quality for your money. I highly recommend this product, especially the shade Luxe if you are looking for an everyday lip gloss that can be used for evening looks too!

Touch Mineral Liquid Foundation in “Organza”

It is very important to me to have a good quality foundation that makes my skin appear flawless without caking my skin in too much product; leading to excess oil and therefore breakouts. Younique’s Touch Mineral Liquid Foundation has been described as “photo-shopping in a bottle” by fans so I was excited to try it.

I was concerned by the packaging of the product. For application, it is advised to apply 2-3 drops of the liquid foundation onto a foundation brush from the pipet provided. When the product is new, that’s no problem, but I expect when you start to reach the end of the foundation it will be tricky to collect the liquid into the pipet.

I was pleasantly surprised by the foundation when it was applied to the skin. The liquid takes on a powdery texture which makes the final look more matte than I expected. This is perfect for my skin type as I have very oily skin. Therefore, even if you have oily skin like me, don’t shy away from this liquid product; the finish is truly flawless. I was also impressed with the full coverage from such a little amount of product, even on my skin which tends to have a few blemishes that need covering.

There are ten shades to choose from and the foundation is priced at £30 per bottle. And as mentioned, little goes a long way with this product.

The foundation is also available in cream and powder form, so whatever type you prefer, Younique can provide it. Overall, I was impressed with all the Younique products I tried and would recommend the brand.
