Hertfordshire Sports Village Opens New Clinic for 'Long Covid' Suffers

By Chloe Olivia Sladden

A rehabilitation clinic for those suffering the symptoms of long Covid has been opened to provide virtual and in person one to one support, according to a university press release.

The specially trained staff will help suffers on their road to recovery from the first appointment, where their health and fitness levels will be assessed. This allows staff to gain knowledge of their pre-Covid health, and help them to identity what their health and fitness goals are, to create a tailored action plan.

Although, there are many stories of people who go through Covid with no effects, it's important not to forget the people who suffer with the debilitating effects of Covid, long after it has passed.

There is a statement from the Office for National Statistics, that suggests that for those who test positive for Covid-19, at least one in five will have symptoms, past the five week mark. This is what is referred to as long Covid or Post-Covid-19 syndrome.

Symptoms of ‘long COVID’ can may vary for different people, but some of the most common symptoms include:

  • "fatigue

  • shortness of breath

  • chest pain or tightness

  • problems with memory and concentration

  • difficulty sleeping"

Hertfordshire Sports Village, Fitness Manager: Stephen Leslie, commented that "For some people, ‘long COVID’ can make it difficult to walk short distances and do other forms of light exercise – activities they could do before they became ill. Not only does this affect a person’s health and fitness, it can also have a big impact on their mental health and wellbeing. And it’s clear that there is still an urgent need for more support for people with ‘long COVID’. We hope the launch of this clinic will help many recover from the long-term effects of the disease and return to their normal way of life.”

Both current and non members of the Hertfordshire Sports Village, will have access to the clinic. For those who are non members, they will be able to get a free membership for the sports village with free appointments with a coach. Any other visits to the sports village will be offered to these members at a discounted rate between £5.50 and £7.50 (depending on peak and off-peak times).

If you would like to book an appointment with the long-Covid clinic, you can call
